A week of Giving in Comalcalco, Tabasco.

Volunteering has always been a part of my life. Since I was little my parents tried to teach me to always give back and help others; which is why I was so happy when they told us we’d be spending one week in Comalcalco, Tabasco. This little tropical town was only one hour away from Villahermosa city, full of nature and tropical creatures and it had quite a lot of experiences waiting for us.

We stayed with a family from the same town, they hosted us and were extremely nice to us! We spent 7 days with them and by the end of the week they felt like family to us. The town greeted us with their arms wide open, they gave us 3 meals every day and made sure we were always happy and comfortable. The heat and the mosquitoes were very intense and this week was definitely a jump out of our comfort zone, but it was completely worth it.

The volunteering consisted mainly in visiting a Zone where there were some local issues, mainly kids who were abandoned by their mothers and were in major need of love, care and looking after. We talked to them, made recreational activities, played games and visited the families in the same zone. Parents also had activities and talks, so that we could listen to their problems and see how we could help them by giving them some solutions or simply advice from different perspectives. The amount of love and knowledge they gave us was incredible, we really felt at home!

Even though we were only here for a week it was enough to realize how blessed and lucky we are! The people in Comalcalco were extremely generous (even though most of them had very little) and we felt as though we didn’t deserve the amount of hard work they put into making our stay pleasant! We will be forever grateful with them for giving us this opportunity and one of the best weeks of our lives!

If you’re ever in need to feel love or loved, give yourself the chance to volunteer, it’s one of the most beautiful experiences ever and I promise you’ll be receiving much more than what you gave in the first place!
